Empathy in Action: VinUni Nursing Students Excel in Specialized Communication for Hearing-Impaired Patients
February 2, 2026
Future nurses demonstrate exceptional skill and dedication when interacting with hearing-impaired individuals, embodying the core values of compassionate healthcare. During their final assessments in the "Introduction to Nursing Practice I" course, VinUni students navigated complex scenarios requiring advanced communication strategies.
At the communication station, students practiced explaining medical procedures like gastroscopy prescriptions to patients with hearing deficits. They worked with standardized patients portrayed by professional actors, while instructors observed from separate rooms to ensure objective evaluation of each student's performance.

Hearing impairments present unique challenges in patient care, making empathetic communication essential. Students learned to adapt their techniques by avoiding common barriers like covering their mouths or speaking loudly, instead focusing on clear facial expressions and patience during interactions.
Through hands-on practice and feedback from both instructors and simulated patients, students developed practical skills in effective communication with hearing-impaired individuals. This comprehensive approach ensures graduates will provide compassionate, patient-centered care upon entering professional practice.
***Vinuni maintains a strategic partnership with the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), consistently ranked #1 globally for nursing education. This collaboration has shaped our curriculum to meet international standards while addressing local healthcare needs.
